Store Information

We are “Chez Akabane,” a confectionery store in Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture.

Our parent company, Akabane Confectionery, was established in 1932 (Showa 7) by the first owner as a wholesale and retail Japanese confectionery store in front of Nikko Station. In 1971 (Showa 46), the store moved to its current location and opened as a retail Japanese confectionery store, eventually expanding to have a branch in front of Shimotsu Imaichi Station.

Later, the current third-generation owner took over Akabane Confectionery after training in a Western-style confectionery store. In 2000 (Heisei 12), he opened the Western confectionery store “Chez Akabane” and established a corporation in 2002 (Heisei 14). In 2011 (Heisei 23), the store was expanded and relocated, and in 2020, we celebrated the 20th anniversary of the opening of the Western confectionery store.

There have been many twists and turns along the way, but we have been able to continue thanks to all of you.

Our commitment is to use an abundance of carefully selected seasonal fruits and ingredients from all over the country. Instead of sourcing regularly from specific regions, we strive to choose the best ingredients of the year and season to provide our customers with the finest quality.

Additionally, our signature product, Baumkuchen “Yama Warau,” is baked every morning from 4 AM by the owner-patissier. We also offer a slightly cute “Sandaime Imaichi Koban” (named after the current third-generation owner), which is a combination of cheesecake and chocolate cake shaped like a koban (an old Japanese coin). Other popular items include the creamy “Seasonal Annin” and the bakery’s specialty “An Shokupan” (sweet bean paste bread). Besides cakes and fresh confectionery, we offer a diverse range of products.

It has been about 90 years since the previous generation’s Japanese confectionery store, and over 20 years since opening our Western confectionery store rooted in the local community of Nikko City. We strive to provide a satisfying taste for our customers and operate our store with a focus on being customer-friendly from various perspectives.
